Quality of water has deteriorated to a stage where besides the usual contaminants like chlorine, heavy metals, and microorganisms, pharmaceutical drugs, industrial pollution, sewage leakage, and other man made chemicals byproducts. This has negatively proliferated the growth of algae and aquatic plants, which ultimately die and decay in water, diminishes oxygen content and devoid of much life.
Charcoal or carbon is a common media for many water purification equipment that trap large water contaminants and stop them from passing through with the water. For other smaller harmful contaminants, it will attract contaminants (using a process of positive and negative charges similar to magnets) and encourage these contaminants to break their bond with water. Chlorine, hydrogen sulfide and heavy metals will not pass through this carbon filters.
