Is Reverse Osmosis Equipment an Effective Means of Water Filtration?

2019/4/24 20:51:10      view:

Some homeowners are still reverse osmosis equipment, but it is fast being replaced by other more effective methods of water filtration.
While RO may still have some advantages for use in the commercial sector, it is no longer a viable method for home use. The commercial sector uses it specifically for desalination purposes. It was also used extensively by the printing industry to feed clean water to printing presses.
However, it failed dismally when it was introduced for residential purposes. There was a lot of hype when homeowners first used RO but, unfortunately, it never lived up to expectations. The first major disadvantage is that this method takes far too long to filter the water. It can take up to four hours to filter just one gallon of water.
Another drawback is the high cost of installing a reverse osmosis system in the home. More alarming, is the knowledge that it is unable to filter anything except water. Therefore, it cannot remove dangerous chemicals. This may not be important in commercial operations, but it is crucial in the home environment.
When you consider that chlorine is one of the most common harmful additives to tap water, the inability of RO to eliminate chemicals becomes even more frightening. Chlorine is a potent disinfectant which is used to kill biological contaminants in water. It may do this successfully but, in the process, it is having an adverse effect on human health.
Health officials are extremely concerned about the ingestion of chlorine. It has been linked to respiratory problems such as asthma, cancer of the rectum, cancer of the bladder and breast cancer. Some studies have even shown that it can cause learning disabilities. If a reverse osmosis unit cannot remove this poison alone, how can it possibly remove other impurities?
